How Cook! works

Q1: How does Cook! work?

A: It's easy.

  • Sign up for a subscription. We will take information such as delivery address, payment details, as well as food preferences and food allergies
  • The menu is updated monthly on the website. You will receive the Chef's Choice unless you select the alternative choice by notifying us one week before the first delivery of the month using the Change My Weekly Menu form.
  • Every Wednesday between 1pm to 6pm (by 5pm to offices), we will deliver your cooking kit(s) to your home or office as specified. The kits will be packed in a reusable cooler bag with ice blankets so that they do not require immediate refrigeration.
  • When we deliver, we will also pick up the previous week’s cooler bag and ice blankets. There is a small fee for cooler bags and ice blankets that are not returned by the end of the month.

Q2: What is a meal kit?

A: A meal kit contains fully prepared ingredients and step-by-step
instructions to quickly cook a delicious dinner.

The Gourmet Dinner For Two entrée kit includes ingredients and instructions
for a main course as well as sides. An optional appetizer such as a soup or
salad is also complete with everything you need - even fresh salad dressing.
And the most you will need to do with the optional dessert is re-heat it.

For example, if you are having Herbed Stuffed Fulton Valley Roast Chicken
with fresh Watercress, and optional Carrot and Jerusalem Artichoke Soup, the
meal kit will include:

*       Uncooked Herb Stuffed Chicken, vacuum packed for freshness
*       Fresh Watercress
*       Carrot and Jerusalem artichoke Soup
*       Detailed instructions for preparation
*       Nutritional information

The Family Dinner kit includes ingredients and instructions to prepare a
main course for 4-5 people. Optional side dishes such as vegetables or a
salad can also be ordered and comes with everything you need.

For example, if you are having our All Natural Meatloaf and a side dish of
broccoli, carrots and cauliflower, your kit will include:

*        Meatloaf
*        Mashed potatoes
*        Broccoli, carrots and cauliflower
*        Detailed instructions for preparation
*        Nutritional information

Q3: How long do I have to subscribe for?

A: You sign up for a monthly subscription but you are free to cancel your subscription at any time and we will refund any amount you have prepaid for future deliveries. We ask that you give us prior to five working days’ notice for your cancellation.

Q4: How much does it cost?

A:

Gourmet Menu Cost
Fresh, gourmet entrée kit, with sides $13.95
Fresh, optional appetizer $4.25
Fresh baked dessert $4.25

Family Menu (Serves 4-5) Cost
Fresh entrée $37.95
Sides $11.95

We do not charge sales tax and you should not tip the delivery person. However, we do charge modest fees for delivery, unreturned cooler bags, and for changing delivery location.
Check out our price comparison table to see why this is such a good deal.

Q5: Can I order more than 1 meal kit per week?

A: Definitely. If you would like to cook more than once a week, you can
order multiple meal kits a week. For the Gourmet Dinner for Two, you can
order both the Chef's Choice and the Alternate Choice so you can cook
something different each night, or the same cooking kits depending on your
preference. You can also order three different Family Dinner kits each week.
Just specify this on the sign up form, or email us at customerservice@cook-sf.com.

Q6: How soon can I expect my first delivery?

A: You can select your preferred delivery date at sign-up, but please give us at least 2 working days from your date of sign-up for your first delivery.

Q7: How do I change my subscription details?
A: Just use the form on the website under Manage My Account to change your subscription details. Because we do not store your details on line, send us an email if you would like to know the details we have on file for you.

Q8: How do I get charged for the subscription?

A: Think of this like a mobile phone bill or credit card bill.

  • At the end of the month, we will send you a monthly statement
  • The statement will include any refunds for cooking kits that you have skipped, as well as any charges such as unreturned cooler bags or changes to delivery location
  • The statement will also include the charges for the cooking kits for the following month
  • We will also charge your credit card the balance shown on the statement.

About the Food

Q1: Where are the ingredients from?

A: We source our ingredients locally from suppliers such as Golden Gate Meat. Our ingredients are GM free where possible, and we source natural and organic meats. Our fish and seafood are either wild or provided by suppliers using sustainable/responsible farming methods. We do not add preservatives and additives to our meal kits as we typically prepare the fresh ingredients on the day itself or the day before. Please check out The Food to find out more about our suppliers and ingredients.

Q2: How long does it take for me to cook?

A: 20 minutes or less. The menu tells you what you get with your cooking kit. You will also receive a card with simple step by step instructions on what to do.

Q3: How long will the meal kit last?

A: The meal kits (non-seafood) should about 5 days in the refrigerator. We have vacuum packed the meats where appropriate for added freshness. For seafood kits, we recommend that you consume them on the day itself for maximum flavor. They should last about 3 days in the refrigerator. Occasionally, we do offer stews especially in our Family Menu – these can be frozen and eaten at a later date.

Q4: Is the food healthy?

A: We design our menus to provide a balanced diet. The nutritional values of the meal kits are included as a guide to help you monitor your intake. We emphasize high quality and fresh ingredients which are GM free where possible and meats which are natural or organic. We do not add preservatives and additives when we prepare our meal kits. You can also adjust the level of seasoning (such as salt) to your taste or to reflect your diet. We do not use MSG in our seasonings.

Q5: How do I choose what meals I want?

A: We prepare the menu for the following month a month in advance, and post it on the website. For your convenience, you will automatically receive the Chef’s Choice unless you prefer the alternative. If so, email us your preferred choices at least one week before the start of the month using the form, Change My Weekly Menu on the website.

Q6: What if I am allergic to a particular type of food?

A: When you sign up for a subscription we ask about any food allergies and other dietary requirements. While we cannot accommodate every need, we will do our best to ensure that every week has a suitable meal option. If we do not receive your menu preferences at the beginning of each month, we will select an option on your behalf that suits your needs. If for whatever reason we are unable to accommodate your requirements, we will not deliver a meal and will not charge you for that week.

Delivery Information

Q1: Where do you deliver to?

A: We have expanded our delivery to cover many parts of the Bay area. However, we are still looking to extend our services so please contact us if you are not within the delivery coverage and would like to receive the service. We will either arrange delivery to you at an additional charge or keep you posted on when we expand the delivery service. Delivery fees start at $3.95 for downtown San Francisco. Please check out the Delivery Areas for specific fees.

Q2: Which days do you deliver?

A: We deliver on Wednesdays. We will be expanding the service in the future to deliver on other days.
Let us keep you posted on the service.

Q3: What time will the delivery arrive?

A: The deliveries should arrive between 1pm and 6pm (by 5pm to your office). If you have specific needs around delivery, please contact us directly.

Q4: What do I do with the cooler bag?

A: Two cooler bags with ice blankets are designated to you, and to help conserve the environment, please bring the cooler bag with ice blankets to your drop-off location (e.g. office) for pick up when we drop off the next cooking kit. If you forget it, please bring it back the following week with the other cooler bag. To reduce the number of cooler bags used, there is a fee of $5 for each unreturned cooler bag levied at the end of each month. Unreturned ice-blankets will be charged $2 each. We will refund the fee when you return the overdue cooler bags and ice blankets.

Q5: I am going to be out of town; how do I skip this week’s delivery?

A: Not a problem. Just use the form under Manage My Account. Get the form to us at least 3 working days in advance and get a full credit refund of the cooking kit and delivery fee at the end of the month. Let us know by 9am the day before delivery and get 50% of the price of the meal kit credited at the end of the month. We will total up the credit at the end of the month and apply it to next month’s subscription.

Q6: I am not going to be in the office. Can you drop off at a different address?

A: Definitely. Just use the form on under Manage My Account. Let us know by 9am the day before the delivery. We will try our best deliver to your alternative address within the delivery coverage area. If the alternative address has a higher delivery charge, you will be charged the difference. You will also be charged a handling fee of $2.
